The drum making in second grade is always one of the highlights of the year, for me anyway. In addition to creating a functional instrument that each kid can use in class and take home at the end, the gourds also are an excellent vehicle for talking about the life cycle of plants and also about community. I tell the kids the gourds are like them -- no two are exactly alike and each one is special.Homework -- Develop your body percussion piece to the beat of "Mary Had A Little Lamb"
